Outlander S7 Epi6 – Where the Waters Meet
Written by Taylor Mallory | Directed by Tracey Deer

This conversation is between Blacklanderz® Amanda, Evelyn, and Erica (ER). Arranged and edited by Vida.

ER: The casting was great. William looks like Jamie on that horse.

E: He looks like a new man.

He has learned some things on his travels and his new confidence shows. Even without the uniform he looks good.

A: He is really coming into his own as a person and I’m enjoying following his story.

ER: That’s Simon Fraser? Hmm.

E: Erica, I kind of feel like that sideways cousin Simon is a bit sketchy.

He didn’t seem like he was too interested in doing too much and it took some effort for him to tell William where to find the other officer.

A: I agree with both of you. Simon is likely taking credit for the hard work the lower ranked men are doing.

ER: Row row row your boat gently down the stream…

E: LOL, Erica!

A: It is interesting how calmly they’re rowing despite the fact danger is likely in front or behind them.

ER: I love to see Jamie in command. It’s his natural place. He’s a leader for sure.
E: All of those people are tired and scared. Good thing they have Jamie and Claire to lead them to safety. I’m with Claire though, they are not going to get far on foot.

A: Jamie needs to remember there are a lot of women and children with them; they’re not battle-hardened soldiers.

ER: Leadership is a good look on him.
E: Yes, it does Erica!
A: Thirded!

ER: She looks so lost and afraid.

Ian is trustworthy for sure. He’s a good egg.

E: I feel for Rachel since she has to coax Mrs. Raven from the boat.

I think she only halfway trusts Rachel and has a mind that she will always be in danger. I just hope she doesn’t mess things up on their road to safety.

A: I hope she listens to Rachel.

ER: Mrs. Raven has severe paranoia. I wonder what she’s witnessed to have her so despondent.

E: Erica I think she has PTSD! She is petrified and paranoid. They definitely are going to have to take a rest. Mrs. Raven is going to be a problem.

A: I agree as well, something bad happened to Mrs. Raven before.

INDIANS!

ER: Just feed into her paranoia. Goodness.

E: Oh good lord, this is not what they need to hear. Mrs. Raven is going to lose her cool in 3, 2, 1….
A: I hope Mrs. Raven doesn’t cause other people to panic.

ER: Madness. And Mrs. Raven is already paranoid. Someone should attempt to talk her off the ledge.
E: Erica, by the look in her eyes, she is already gone. Just trying to find the best escape route.
A: She is definitely looking to flee, even if it means running towards danger.

ER: And of course, Claire goes to find her. I fear this will not end well for Claire.

E: Here we go, Claire is going to look for someone who doesn’t want to be found and we all know how these things with Claire trying to help go. Just hope history doesn’t repeat itself.
A: Claire is sometimes too selfless for her own good.

ER: Check out Roger…parenting. It looks good on him.

E: I was so proud of Roger in this scene. I really think having spent time back in the 1700’s really helped Roger embrace his heritage more.

My son only cursed because that woman damn near tore his ear off . . . and for no crime greater than sayin’ a few words in Gaelic.

Did Jeremiah tell you what it was he said?

He called Miss Glendenning a haggard,
old goat-breathed daughter of a witch.

He’ll have had that one from my father-in-law. I would
never have taught him that particular phrase.

E: I was laughing out loud when the schoolmaster translated what Jemmy called his teacher. Got to love Grandda teaching the kids the important words. :)
A: Jamie was unexpectedly preparing Jemmy to preserve the old Gaelic ways. I also love Roger defending Jemmy for being a Gaelic speaker.

ER: Lose their history. Sounds familiar…
E: Ugh. So wrong. I’m so glad Roger was having none of that.

I’ve had a word with Mrs. Glendenning but
I fear she herself is just a symptom of a larger problem.

People nowadays are eager for the children
to speak good English, get good jobs,
be able to leave the Highlands.
A: You can copy and paste this conversation into any US classroom with culturally insensitive teachers.

Aye, it’s a shame. The language is our history, our culture.
The Highlanders have been fighting and dying
for the right to speak Gaelic since before . . .
since before the Rising.

I couldn’t agree more. You’re my man.
I have been wanting to hold a class for exactly what you’re talking about.I-I do have it right, you were a teacher?
Aye.
ER: Yeah Roger. So happy for him. He will feel useful.
E: YAAY!!! I am so happy that Roger found his purpose. HE was looking to do something that mattered, and this is it!
A: I’m also glad Roger has finally found something that combines all his skills and passions!

ER: That was quite the throw. Good job Jamie!
E: He is deadly with that knife. Those redcoats didn’t stand a chance. They thought they were hunting down civilians. Little did they know who was hunting them back.
A: Those redcoats didn’t know what hit them.

ER: I feel as though her suicide was inevitable. The shot certainly let the Redcoat know where they were which is unfortunate because now, Claire is taken…again.

E: OMG, Mrs. Raven! I was not expecting her to pull that pistol out. I feel badly for her. I don’t think she would have ever gotten over her trauma.

Unfortunately, this was for the best but now everyone knows where Claire is. And just like that, Claire is snatched up again. This scene really reminded me of season one when Claire was trying to get back to Craig Na Dun and wound up being captured by the redcoats.

A: I was expecting Mrs. Raven to get recaptured but not for her to use the gun. I agree with both of you that she was never going to learn to cope with her PTSD.

ER: And the search begins.

E: Unlike S1 Erica, it isn’t Claire’s fault for going missing. But damn, Jamie and Ian really don’t need this right now.

A: Denzell better go back to the rest of the group to save Ian and Jamie from more problems.

ER: A man and his faith. Love it! ❤️❤️

E: I missed that, Erica. I was still fixated on Claire being grabbed.
A: I also noticed Jamie’s silent prayer. He knew Mrs. Raven’s soul was troubled.

ER: Go and get your lass!
E: Jamie, Ian and Rollo to the rescue! I just hope breaking into this fort is easier than Fort Williams was.

A: Let’s hope the British have their own weak point that Jamie and Ian can sneak through!

ER: Claire is a force to be reckoned with.

E: This man does not know who he is dealing with. Claire doesn’t play. LOL!!

She is going to get what she needs, and she will definitely get on this infantryman’s last nerve.

She relishes that this is something that she’s very good at. We see her in her groove in a weird way. It’s obviously a very precarious time, but it’s also where her skills are very useful.

A: Claire is going to wear this soldier down and we love to see it!

ER: Of course the wound is healing well.

E: I’m so glad to see Walter. I really thought that the British were just going to shoot him like after Culloden.

Maybe this is when the British Army started showing mercy to rebels. Turning them more into the army that Claire remembers.

A: Same here, Evelyn! I do suspect the British want the rebel prisoners to return to the crown and that’s what’s motivating their kindness.

ER: A new complication. Goodness. The end is near for Walter, I’m afraid.

E: Oh no. Having trouble taking in air is never good. I sure hope it’s nothing bad.

I haven’t read far into Book 7 so I’m not sure if Walter is an important character or not. I would love to see him stick around.

A: Same here but at the same time, any symptoms involving the lungs have the potential to turn severe quickly.

[V: He is not looking well at all!]

ER: William looks scared.

E: Did you see the look on Richardson’s face? I think he was reassessing whether Lord Ellesmere was up to such a delicate task.

A: William really thinks he’s going to get fired or demoted.

ER: So…spies for the British. Okay.

E: I did have to giggle a bit. William being so “new” he didn’t stop to think that these contacts were really spies. Was that not the conversation he had previously with Richardson?

The look on William’s face after finding out is priceless. Like oh man, not only did I not deliver and lose the messages, but I also called these people turncoats.

Hopefully, Richardson will give him a mulligan on his rookie mistake.

A: William was definitely not ready for this tough assignment. The look on his face is indeed priceless!

ER: William’s eyes have been opened.

ER: Working both sides of the fence, as it were.

E: Charles has great expressions. I love how his face changes as he realizes what is going on. It shows all over his face.

William learned a great lesson today. Good thing he didn’t out the spies to the rebel army. That would have been disastrous.

A: William is getting a crash course in spy craft today.

ER: Oh my. Let’s see where this goes.
E: Can Richardson make William feel any smaller right now? He is piling on, but I guess he is trying to teach him something.
A: This is a tough talk, but mistakes in war are far more serious than any mistakes in the classroom.

ER: I wonder if he thought he had met his end…not being successful in his duty.

E: Whew! William gets a second chance. He better not screw it up!
A: Stay ready William!

ER: Forever the caretaker, our beloved Claire.

E: I do love Claire in her element. The Boss Lady!!

A: These scenes prove why Claire is such a good doctor!

[V: Coughing up blood is certainly a bad sign.]

ER: William is like who is this woman and who does she think she is?! Talking to me like that. Oh wait…I know her.

E: Boss Lady in action! Glad William figured out who Claire was. She was going to get nothing fast out of those guards. They just don’t care.
A: William will not make the mistake of underestimating Claire!

ER: OH yes…now I remember you…Claire must be thinking.
E: Oh yes, Claire is thinking, Erica. I do enjoy how they are weaving a lot of William’s not too distant relatives into each episode. I can’t remember if Claire saw William back in Wilmington before the war started but she looks at him like it has been a while and the last time he was a tween.

A: She is definitely starting to connect the dots in her head, but it’s been years since that incident.

ER: William is such a gentleman.

William is (naturally) quite surprised to meet Claire again, and more so when he realizes that she’s a rebel. Still, he’s a considerate and gallant young man, and he knows that the Frasers at least were friends of his father (and he assumes that his father likely doesn’t know about the Frasers now being traitors to the Crown). Beyond that, he’s been raised to respect and protect women in general, and his instinct is to do that for Claire.

E: He was sad to hear that Claire is a rebel.

I’m sure he thinks every crown subject should be loyal and just can’t fathom why one would change sides. He is a Lord!

A: He is definitely surprised that someone Lord John knew would switch sides.

But he doesn’t know the future or the present circumstances the colonists are facing.

ER: That energy looks like the pool in Jamaica in Abandawe.

E: Oh yeah! I was confused when she first saw that in the tunnel but as she got closer I remembered what it was.

Those portals are popping up everywhere. I was wondering if the travelers somehow “activate” them when it is not Beltane or Samhain.

A: I definitely believed that tunnel had some connection to the standing stones. I just wasn’t sure what it would be.

ER: Look at them connecting the dots.
E: It’s crazy for sure! These “portals” are everywhere.

A: It makes sense the dam is there to convert that portal energy into electricity.

ER: Catchy title – ‘Hitchhiker’s Guide to Time Travel.’

E: I love it too Erica!

A: Definitely a title worthy of the best seller list!

Uh, wait a minute. Roger, aren’t you supposed
to be doing your Gaelic class at the
school, four o’clock?

Uh, trousers or kilt?
Uh, kilt.

ER: KILT ALL THE WAY!
A: Yes, Roger is going to teach by example!
E: And he will be wearing a kilt! Love this!!

ER: I love these two together. They make a great team.
E: Jamie and the redcoats have history, so he knows what he is talking about.
A: Jamie just confirmed what I said earlier about the British wanting rebels to return to their side.

ER: Goodness Jamie. It doesn’t always have to be you.
E: I was thinking the same thing, Erica. Jamie has to acknowledge that he has to let someone else fight a battle for him. He can’t do it all. Ian is right for all the right reasons.

A: Jamie can’t do everything all the time. He’s taught Ian well.

ER: Thank goodness. Jamie listens to reason.
E: Yes. Thank goodness.
A: About time!

ER: What’s happening here?
E: Wait what? Jamie needs Ian’s bow. Is he good at using it?
A: Jamie is definitely creating some kind of distraction. I don’t think it needs to be a good shot just something to take British eyes off of Ian.

ER: A lady of action, Claire is. Love it!
A: Claire is not wasting any time, there’s work to be done!

ER: Well done, William. But still no food.

Something will work out I’m sure.

E: Finally, things are being brought to these poor people. I get the infantrymen don’t have enough food but give these people some food and water.

A: William clearly did his best, but a few loaves of bread would be better.

ER: Yes. This is why Claire is loved. She’s a powerful lady in any time.

E: Loved this interaction all together. I think Mr. Hammond was a bit smitten with Claire.
A: I definitely think Hammond was more than a little impressed with her as well!

E: KILT! LOVE IT!

A: Go Roger go!

ER: 😄😄😄.
E: Erica, I was like, isn’t that the guy who locked Bree in the tunnel! I want Roger to meet him right after class.
A: Their meeting is going to be very interesting!

ER: Quite the curse, Roger.
E: Too funny!
A: This is so extra; I love it!

As for Roger himself, he loved the opportunity to teach again. He hasn’t really had a good opportunity to do that on Fraser’s Ridge (the population is small and widely spread out, and children would have been largely educated at home), and he’s also been drawn to a religious vocation. Having been suddenly jerked out of that and back to the 20th century, he hasn’t yet come to grips with whether he does still have a call to be a minister, or how to do it, if so (things being a bit more complex in the 20th century).

He’s come back with his family, because they had to bring Mandy [Rosa Morris] to a time where medical technology was advanced enough to save her life, but Roger–who was for a long time out of place and directionless in the 18th century–now finds himself in exactly the same situation. What is he really meant to do?

ER: He is such a wonderful teacher. I see the passion in his speech. Beautiful.

E: I love seeing him in his element. I want to see more of THIS!! And he looks good in that Kilt.
A: Agreed ladies, he has never had this much energy!

ER: No history should be lost. If you don’t know your history, you’re bound to repeat it.
E: Heritage and history should not be lost. Keep it alive Roger!
A: If history isn’t kept, what will the children learn?

ER: I thought I saw something a bit extra in the hymnals.
E: What is all the paper hanging out of the hymnals?
A: Is Roger sure all of those papers are from Rev. Wakefield?

ER: Proud son moment here for Jem. He’s proud of his dad and more importantly he’s proud to be his son.
E: Jem is absolutely beaming that his Dad is teaching and singing. He is so proud of Roger. I am glad Roger is back to singing as well. I have missed this from the earlier seasons and his traumatic battle back from almost losing his ability to sing all together.
A: Same here, I missed his singing!

ER: I love his voice.
E: This looked like so much fun.
A: I want to be in Roger’s class now!

ER: Sounds delicious…NOT.
E: I hope this works…otherwise Walter will be having a super coughing fit. He can’t breathe now, that may make him worse.
A: Cayenne doesn’t sound like an ingredient that would soothe a cough, but Claire knows what herbs work together.

ER: Something stronger will certainly help that concoction. What Claire wouldn’t give for some Heparin right now. Preparing him to die. Beautiful.

A: I was hoping she could save him, but he’s losing too much blood internally.

E: I’m so sad for Walter and Claire. All that effort and he is still going to lose his life.

ER: Can’t wait for the next class.
A: I bet Roger will get more people attending the next class after the students tell their friends.
E: They all seemed to enjoy the class. I hope he continues to teach them.

Jem’s run-in with his teacher gives Roger a fiery urge to Do Something to the school system, and Mr. Menzies’ [Stephen McCole] invitation is thus very welcome. Having had a taste of the classroom again gives Roger heart and the sense that he might possibly find his way again.

ER: Adrift is putting it lightly.
E: So excited for Roger with his new focus.

The character’s written well but Chris particularly has this thing about him where he’s so brilliant at being deceptive and duplicitous. He has this earnest, charming way about him, so Roger has a suspicion but nothing to act upon.

ER: Trouble is brewing with this one.
A: Agreed.
E: I call ‘suspish’ here…what is Rob Cameron up to.

ER: I bet he does. I’m not a fan of this one.
E: Rob is making me nervous. Hopefully, he has no idea what the writing is all about. Sci-fi. HA!
A: I hope Rob isn’t about to steal these ideas for his own book.

And, of course, the plot is helped by having Rob Cameron [Chris Fulton] (whom we already don’t like, because of his attitude toward Bree [Sophie Skelton]) accidentally shown a clue [Roger mistakenly brought his time travel writings to school] as to what the MacKenzies really are. And we Just KNOW that’s going to cause trouble…

ER: Intrusive much, Rob?
A: I don’t like Rob. He seems pushy and too eager.

E: What is up with this guy? Who invites himself to someone’s house after locking the guy’s wife in a tunnel?

ER: Roger doesn’t look like this will fly with Brianna.

A: Agreed, Brianna will definitely not want to have to be fake nice to this man.
E: Agreed. Bree is gonna pitch a fit. I think Rob is spying for others at the office.

Rob definitely becomes a pretty prominent character in the story. It’s an interesting dynamic at first because I think Roger gets a better inkling of who Rob is at heart than Brianna does. It was great to have new characters. I loved working with Chris.

ER: Eternal rest unto Walter.

A: Rest in peace Walter and may the next Black character we meet survive to the end of the episode/plot line.
E: Too right, Amanda.

ER: Rescue is underway.

I think it was a nice storytelling device to be able to highlight the different factions that were involved in the Revolutionary War, and that it wasn’t just the British and the Regulators. It’s also the different tribes and where their allegiances were, and how that affected them and everything.

As somebody who’s Irish and wasn’t very well versed in American history, it’s been really interesting to understand the sort of origins of American democracy as we know it today, where the roots of that came from, and how it was fought for and all of the different people that were involved. And I think it’s nice that we were able to, through that character, introduce a whole other aspect of the people who were there.

A: Ian’s here to help his favorite Auntie!
E: Ian to the rescue!

ER: Ok…let’s see where this goes.

A: Ian has to tread carefully now.

E: Uh-oh. Ian is busted now.

Mr. Murray.

What in God’s name are you doing here?

Ah, I’m a scout.

Come from Thayendanegea-
the Mohawk leader you call Joseph Brant.

ER: So far so good.
A: Ian is definitely drawing suspicion away from him.

E: I hope William believes him, but we will see.

ER: Damn. He’s connecting the dots with ease…nothing else gets past William. Clearly, he is his father’s child.

A: Uh oh, William picked up the lessons from Richardson.

Obviously, he’s known Jamie in the past [as a family friend], so they have a relationship that way, but I think, at this point, he’s pretty clueless. He’s a passionate guy, and a lot of times that manifests itself in anger and some rage. He’s very emotional and I think that can sometimes be his downfall, but it is also quite a redeeming quality for him.

E: And here we go. Everyone is busted now. William is not going to be happy when he finishes putting two and two together.

ER: And the dots have been connected.
A: The jig is up.
E: Yup. It’s all out in the open now.

I think a lot of his eagerness to go to war is just purely of ignorance because he doesn’t realize how messy and how bloody and how horrible war can be. But he has a similar passion to Young Ian [John Bell], that he really wants to fight for what he believes in. And it’s interesting that they’re on opposite sides because when we did meet each other, we formed quite a lovely relationship.

ER: Protect Jamie at all costs, Ian.
A: Never surrender!
E: Hold fast Ian, you can get out of this. Think fast.

ER: Something is about to happen. I feel it.
A: Whatever is happening may force William’s hand.
E: Ian is not going to leave without Claire. He promised Jamie he would bring her back for him.

ER: Good shot, Jamie. Excellent distraction.

A: Jamie is using the same tactic the British soldiers in the woods used against the fort refugees, good idea!

E: LOVE this scene! Jamie looks fierce wielding a bow with flaming arrows.

ER: Duty be damned.

A: I get why William’s saying no, he already got in trouble with his superiors.

E: William can’t afford to mess up again, but this is Claire, and he does feel a bit bound to her since she helped heal his father.

Well, Ian urgently needs to get Claire out of the fort, as he realizes there’s likely to be a battle soon, and she’d be in the middle of it. Normally, if interrupted in his rescue by a British soldier, he’d just kill the man and run for it. As it is, he’s not about to kill Jamie’s son–who is also his own cousin, by blood.

So, he seizes the only possible way out and appeals to William’s sense of honor (which he knows a lot about, after their spell in the Great Dismal), pointing out that William has said (and it’s the truth) that he owes Ian his life.

ER: Good lad. Let’s get out of here.

A: Good work, Ian!

E: Smart Ian!

For saving my father’s life.
There’s a gap in the fence where they are
digging new latrine trenches.
No one will see you go.

A life for a life, Mr. Murray. We’re quits.
Don’t let me see you again.
I may not have a choice.

ER: Reunited and it feels so good.

A: I know Claire feels guilty for leaving people behind, but this reunion is well deserved!

E: Claire did the best she could with little to nothing.

She couldn’t stay but she was able to make those people more comfortable.

Sassenach.

Jamie.

ER: I love Jamie’s faith.

Jamie, all those people . . .
women and children.
I just left them.

I know you, Sassenach.
I ken you did all you could.

A: And also his empathy.
E: Yes, that probably meant more to Walter than she knew.

Walter Woodcock . . .
Wasn’t anything I could do.
Just sat there and held his hand.
Saved his life only to watch him die.

Sometimes a hand in the dark is,
uh, the comfort a man needs
before his soul takes its final journey.

Is that brandy? Where’d you get it?
ER: Yes Jamie…your son.

Your son. He gave it to me.
A: He’s glad William looked out for Claire.
E: Yes Amanda, Jamie is glad that William looked after her, but he looks sad that William is here and in the heat of it.

ER: They look beat.
A: They do not look ready to fight General Howe at all.

After a few days’ journey,
we rejoined the refugees from the fort,
E: I don’t know how many days it took them to get back, but they do look beat. This militia army looks like they need a long rest before they can take on a battle.

who’d found their way back to the Continental Army.

Jamie’s term of service was almost over,
and we’d be leaving soon for Scotland.
ER: Okay, Claire. If you think his service is almost up…think again.
A: I don’t think the Continental Army will let Jamie walk away that easily.
E: Claire is ready to get on the road. She has seen enough war and she wants to make sure Jaime doesn’t get his service extended.

ER: Is this a different dog playing Rollo?

A: Possibly, but he’s still a good boy.

E: Rollo is smitten. And I think this is Rollo 2 as; he isn’t as full as the other Rollo and has a longer snout than the dog we normally see. He does have some nice markings with the tan on his ears though. I don’t think Rollo has ever taken to anyone quite like this. Rollo is usually never content when he is away from Ian. Ian is glad to see Rachel and Rollo.

ER: Oh, my Rachel. He came for you.
A: Ian is tripping over his words; it’s so cute!

E: Oh yes Erica and Amanda, he came for her. They are moving out of camp, and he definitely wants to spend some time with her.

ER: That love is there already for them both. Young love. He appears ready for the prospect.

A: I definitely believe Ian has a little crush on her. Rollo is smitten with her too!

E: Ian offering up Rollo is a sure sign of love ya’ll.
A: He is pining HARD here and it’s adorable!

A: Rachel isn’t being subtle either. So cute!

ER: And yes, they did brush hands.

A: LOL! Just like the Austen movies.

E: Sooo cute and Ian needs this. Now that he knows he can father children, he is not so afraid to make advances.

ER: Tricks of the trade.

A: That will be the best turkey ever!
E: Everyone will be fed tonight. I love how Jamie is waltzing through with his prize. Who is this man and why is he eyeing Jamie. Jamie is a great hunter, remember his name is Bear Killer.

You do that on purpose?

Aye. Always shoot ’em through the eye-
best place if you dinna want to
spoil the meat.

And you are?
James Fraser. Colonel of Fraser’s Irregulars.

Well, I’m Colonel Daniel Morgan,
Commander, Morgan’s Rifles.

ER: Ok, a new development. Let’s see.
ER: Wait, is this the same Morgan with the rum? Captain Morgan?
A: He may be related to the rum Morgan but not the same man. He’s definitely someone I recognize from history classes.

Never mind a quartermaster.
You come with me, and I’ll be sure you’re well taken care of.

Oh, and, ah, bring your rifle.

E: Ugh, why does Jamie need to go with this Colonel? I’m sorry people are hungry. And Jaime, Claire need a place to lie down. Erica and Amanda, I had the same thought! Captain Morgan. 🙂
ER: Of course Claire, he wants to become one of them. Jamie is a fighter. And he’s thinking about Brianna…What America will become.

A: He also wants to keep an eye out on Ian.

E: There are so many reasons to go, but so many reasons for them to stay. I agree Erica, Jamie wants to make sure that the America that Briana and Claire talk about actually happens. HE is thinking of his children and grandchildren now.

ER: Keep him safe. Far from battle is good.
A: Fighting from a distance is definitely a good idea.

E: I like the idea of him being a sniper or rifleman, if it were. IT will keep him far from the battle with the long rifles. If you have to fight, fight from a distance.

ER: I loved this scene. A woman is possibility.

A: Agreed. The world would be better with more women making the decisions.

E: Right! Women know how hard it is to bring life into the world, why would we want to destroy it.

If women managed things, we would definitely have less war.

ER: Their love has changed. It has matured.

A: And has also grown stronger.

E: LOL, she is too funny. Don’t stop and check their age, if their trying to kill you. He is right though.

He tried to stop the younger Highland boys from fighting at Culloden and his mindset hasn’t really changed.

They haven’t lived yet and that really bothers him.

ER: This exchange is simply wonderful.

Now . . .
. . . tell me about William.
Tell me about my son.

He’s handsome.
Always has been.
A: Agreed, Jamie is glad that William has some of his qualities.
E: I love how Claire described William. It was so gentle, and Jamie needed to hear this about William.

He’s thoughtful . . . and observant.
And he’s stubborn. Clearly a man of honor.
When he looked at me,
I saw the same kindness in his eyes.
But there’s also a fire there
fierceness of a Highlander
under all those courtly manners.

ER: Roger is a happy man.
A: He has never been happier.

E: He is feeling it! He has a new role and he’s happy. Still not sure what he is going to do with that ole Rob Cameron inviting himself to dinner, but who cares? Dance away, Roger!

ER: PLOT TWIST!

A: What was that outside? Who is there?
E: I saw that face and thought, is that the nuckelavee, knucklehead, or whatever, the crazy evil horse demon fairy?

ER: Oh no! Don’t you love it when family comes to visit?
A: Who’s interrupting Roger’s meal prep?

A: Oh god! Where did that dude come from?!?! Why is he coming for Roger?!?

A: He better run away. Roger can and will beat him up!
E: I had to rewind multiple times to capture the face and I still couldn’t figure out who that person was. At first, it looked like Ian Murray, but he’s over 200-yrs-old and dead. Also Roger wouldn’t punch him. I am so intrigued as to who this is and why he is haunting Lallybroch.

ER: And here we go. Ahh, family. Got to love it.

A: What the hell??? Who is he?!?! I can’t remember who this is???
[V: It’s William Buccleigh (‘Buck’) Mackenzie. His ancestor who got him hanged.]
E: Wait who?? The guy who got him hanged?! Where did he come from and how did he get there? I have so many questions and now have to wait until next Thursday at midnight!

[V: Riddle me this. Has anyone ever mentioned the fact that Roger and Bree are related? Though distant relations but related nevertheless.]
A: I don’t remember if that was ever addressed but maybe this is when they will?
E: That’s right. Jaime’s Uncle is Dougal MacKenzie who fathered Roger’s ancestor. Are Bree and Roger fourth cousins removed?

We give this episode 5-shots (rounded up, a few points were deducted because Walter died!). Everything is coming together nicely for all involved. We cannot believe we only have two episodes left before the break and then the last eight episodes of this season.
We especially enjoyed seeing Roger come into his own in this episode. So many of the previous seasons Roger was in Jaime’s shadow or there was a lot of self-pity going on. I enjoyed seeing Roger being happy. We also got to see all of the characters – William, Rachel, her Brother, Ian, Rollo, Jaime and Claire and especially more of Roger and Bree. We enjoyed the interwoven stories; and, the writers have done a fantastic job this season. we also liked that there are plot twists for both parts of the timeline.
Everyone is evolving this season and it feels like there’s more to come. We also love the changes in the characters, especially Jamie and Claire. Their love has matured so much that it is beautiful to see. We are so happy that we are able to see their relationship to this point from where they began all those years ago.
We have three favorite scenes in this episode. One was with Rachel and Ian’s conversation with Rollo. So much was nonverbal, and we could feel it! The other was Roger teaching the Gaelic class. It was such a change to see Roger in his element and we were glad that we got to see that developing on screen. Both scenes were lighter moments in the episode, but these were packed with character development.
Last, but certainly not least, was the scene with Claire telling Jamie about William. It was reminiscent of S3 based on Voyager when Jamie told Claire about him. She used the same words that he used and then some. The tenderness in the scene was beautifully acted by both Sam and Caitriona.
The standout performance in this episode was Gemma McElhinney’s portrayal of Mrs. Raven. At first glance, she embodied the psychosis that Mrs. Raven was experiencing. Great acting and she stole those scenes from Ian, Jamie, and Claire.
Hands down, our favorite custom was Roger in his KILT!! We also like his casual look, his Levi’s and button down shirt.
As always, the cinematography was excellent, showing the different landscapes. The aerial shots took our breath away. We loved the shots of the lake and of the areas around the fort. The locations are well picked and researched. You can’t tell those places aren’t Upstate New York. Scotland makes a good USA in its infancy.
LOOKING FORWARD
What we are looking forward to in S7 Epi7 – A Practical Guide for First Time Travelers.
Amanda: I’m looking forward to seeing what happens with Buck, more of Roger’s Gaelic classes, what happens to Claire and Jamie in Saratoga, and Ian and Rachel having another meeting. Also check out Amanda’s and her recent Outlander articles! Follow Amanda on Twitter – @amandarprescott.
Erica: With two more episodes left, I’m looking forward to everything. Looks like the fight is starting for all of the Frasers…Jamie and Claire as well as Brianna and Roger. I look forward to seeing the dinner. Should be very interesting. Follow Erica on IG – @imyourealtor14.
Evelyn: EVERYTHING!! More importantly, I want to know how the Rob Cameron dinner is going to turn out. I am still unsure if he doesn’t have a thing for Roger or if he is a spy from his group of work buddies to see what the MacKenzies have going on. Also, Buck is in for it. Can’t wait to see this plot play out. Follow Evelyn on Twitter – @ELoran.
