Droughtlander seems to be never-ending. “Outlander” has been on hiatus since July, but fans can look forward to new episodes of the time travel drama in 2017. The actors and writers of the Starz program haven’t left fans without anything to hold them over, though. They’ve let some fun spoilers slip, so we already know plenty about S3.

A New Opening Scene — Unlike the third book, the S3 will kick off at the Battle of Culloden. Jamie (Sam Heughan) will face off with Black Jack (Tobias Menzies) on the battlefield. Showrunner Ronald D. Moore said that showing the action made more sense for the TV show.

Flashbacks — Though the show zoomed forward 20 years in the S2 finale, fans will still get to see what they missed in the last couple decades. Expect to see what Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie were up to during their time apart.

Separation — Claire won’t get back to the 18th century right away. Balfe has noted that she and Heughan were often filming separately, which is a big change. “It’s very strange, but the nice thing is I have been able to work with Tobias,” Balfe told Vanity Fair in November. “I feel quite lucky. If I don’t have one husband, I’ve always got the backup. Not that either of them are backups, but it’s been an interesting and strange dynamic.”

More Frank — That means Frank will be appearing more than readers might expect. Author Diana Gabaldon said that S3 dives deeper into Claire and Frank’s relationship than her novel “Voyager.” However, she told TV Guide that it was done “consistently.” Claire and Frank are trying to make their marriage work, but it will be a struggle.
