If we could travel in time, we’d fast forward right to Feb. 16, when Outlander returns for season 5 on STARZ. The new season, based on Diana Gabaldon’s The Fiery Cross, picks up with Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and his wife Claire Randall Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) happily ensconced at Fraser’s Ridge in the hills of North Carolina, where their little settlement is growing.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Outlander without some drama, and this season Jamie is tasked by Governor William Tryon (Tim Downie) with hunting down his godfather Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix), who is one of the leaders of the Regulators. While Jamie is torn, because his loyalties are actually with the Regulators, he knows that if he doesn’t follow William’s behest, he could lose his land grant and everything he has accomplished so far in the New World.
As for Claire, she hasn’t taken completely to domestic life. She continues to build her medical clinic in the new home Jamie built for her. She also finally achieves some success at modernizing her medications.
They have been joined by their daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and her fiancé Roger (Richard Rankin), who hopefully will make it legal this year. They are raising their son (well, Roger hopes Jemmy is his and not Stephen Bonnet’s) together.
What’s the release date for season 5 of Outlander?
Outlander returns Feb. 16, 2020 with 12 new episodes.
