Black History Month with NMAAHC Curator Mary Elliott

Although I celebrate e’ry day, happy Black History Month! ~ V

Mary Elliott, the museum’s curator of slavery and freedom, discusses the origin of Black History Month, its significance and why it’s a special occasion at the museum.

In 2023, the theme is “Black Resistance,” and stories of Black Resistance abound throughout the museum. For the next few weeks, the museum will focus on five weekly sub-topics of Black resistance.
