Long before he was cast in Outlander as Lord John Grey, David Berry was starring in another addictive period drama. Now U.S. audiences can see the Aussie at work: Acorn TV is about to begin airing A Place Called Home, an Australian sudser that stars Berry as the gay son of a wealthy family in post-World War II Australia.
Nicknamed an Aussie Downton Abbey, the series follows nurse Sarah Adams (Marta Dusseldorp) as she becomes involved in the affairs of the wealthy Bligh family. In the first three seasons, Berry’s character James Bligh struggled with his sexuality before finally coming to a place of resolution. The show has dealt with themes such as anti-semitism, sexuality, and social class.
