Outlander S7 Epi14 – Ye Dinna Get Use To It

Written by Diana Gabaldon | Directed by Jan Matthys

This conversation is between Blacklanderz® Erica, Andrea and Vida. Arranged, and edited by Vida.

V: Good lord, gout has been around for eons. Hal is just ready to hand out commissions like they’re candy. And, saying LJG’s full, lengthy name was hilarious.

E: Quite funny but at least now we know where he got his name from to give to the Continental army soldier.

A: Gout! I LOL, which isn’t right, but my mom used to call that a rich man’s issue due to eating rich foods none of the rest of the folks could afford to eat. 😂

V: Here we go again with the discussion of William wanting to see action in the colonies. And there is Hal, once again, ready to guarantee him just that. Yeah Hal, Henry has started with his commission and is now in the arms of Mercy. Bet you didn’t see that would happen. It was also interesting that LJG regards their country as Mother England and Hal sees America as the son who dishonored his father.

E: The contrast between Hal and John is apparent in this scene. John’s caring nature shines through here as opposed to Hal who is very matter of fact. A disobedient child needs to be punished. I don’t know how they grew up in the same household.

A: He is really going to have a fit when he finds out about Henry and Mercy.

Give me your word, John . . .
. . . that you will never accept the notion of American dependency.

Never.

V: Well, it is easy for Hal, sitting in England behind a desk, to ask LJG to never accept America’s independence, and LJG saying never. But things/circumstances change.

A: Okay Hal, well then take yourself on to America then and see if you don’t change your mind.

E: It’s very different once you are standing in the thick of it.

I, Bertram Armstrong,
swear to be true

to the United states of America,
to serve them honestly and faithfully
against all enemies and opposes whatsoever.

And to observe and obey the orders
of the Continental Congress.

And the orders of the generals and officers
set over me by them.

V: And, three years later, here we are. I loved this transition to him taking the oath. Hal would have a conniption fit if he knew. If William found out, he would react the same way he did when he found out Jamie was his biological father and break everything in sight.

E: Standing in the thick of it, I believe that John was doing everything he could to save his life. This was the only way. Oath to Hal be damned.

A: I agree. He is definitely doing what he has to do to survive. No one is worrying about an oath in these times.

V: That poor little flag looked a bit tattered, well the stars did.

E: Even today the stars will look tattered.

V: Oh Jamie, it’s not as grand, but it will do. Who is it now? My god, how are you going to just barge into someone home, don’t speak or introduce yourself. Then, ask if they have a presentable dining room. It amazes me that during that time, when they occupied a city, they just took over people’s homes. And it’s wild to me that Jamie and Claire are just living there and have no clue where LJG is.

E: From my understanding of US history, this is the way it was because a formal setting was not available and the British army could attack at any time…per my daughter, Adia, history major.

A: That was a sad chandelier, but I suppose it is what it is. Yeah, I had no idea that they could just walk in like that. I love history. My favorite subject but even I didn’t know this.

V: I was with Mrs. Figgs asking about his manners. I fell out when she called him a boy!

A: Mrs. Figgs with her equivalent of excuse me, what are you doing barging in here?

E: Boy is what I call my 21-year-old son…doesn’t matter that he’s bigger than I. If she were in Virginia, how the roles would have been reversed.

V: Erica, you are so right on that last part.

V: I see ole boy straightened up when Jamie introduced himself. But again, how do you barge into someone’s home, and tell them they are going to host a dinner that evening? I don’t care that it is for Washington and his generals.

E: No respect for her or the house. Rudeness.

A: Rude!

V: I am loving Mrs. Figgs and her sassiness. Talking about how she hopes the LT. is at home in the kitchen and that she has an apron for him to help prepare the meal. Jamie seemed amused too.

E: Essentially, mind your manners, boy.

A: Mrs. Figgs version of you better act right. I was cracking up when she told him she had that apron waiting for him.

V: I spy Ian spying! I always loved how Outlander changes the viewpoint for the audience, like this one, so we can see what Ian sees through his spyglass.

E: Classic Outlander directing. Beautifully done.

V: Good grief. Look at those vegetables rolling around on the ground. They will need a very good washing.

He was speaking so fast, and his accent was so thick. I could barely understand what he was saying his name was until he got to the end – Marquis de Lafayette. Then, all I could think of was ‘America’s favorite fighting Frenchman’ and Daveed Diggs’ performance of him in Hamilton. I would be like Claire and amazed at meeting someone you read about in history books.

E: Absolutely love how she is meeting with people she once learned about. I can also see Bree and Roger in these situations as well. What it must be like to see the people you learned about. Takes me back to when Claire met Benedict Arnold in the first half of this season.

A: As soon as he started speaking French, I was like, oooh I know who this is, and I know Claire is going to be delighted. And being a huge French lover and all things France, I loved getting my bit of dialogue.

V: He is too funny for words. I’ve never heard of giving someone cheese as an apology. But then he just goes on and on about every type of food he brought from home. I guess, back then, it’s understandable coming from another country.

E: Again, according to my daughter, the typical gift brought to the house is given to the lady of the house and it could be flowers or an ingredient that can be used in cooking. So, I suppose cheese is an acceptable gift.

A: Now that I think about it, I did know. I read somewhere that the French like to bring cheese as gift or other food item. I personally would never turn down cheese.

V: OMG, this man again with his food. And this time, eels preserved in a vinegar of champagne with rosemary and marjoram? Just the sound of that made my stomach churn. It sounds like too many flavors going on at one time that should not go together. I can’t even imagine what they would taste like.

I’m with Jamie with that barf look on his face. And what was all of that on the table? It didn’t look like a meal, but a hodgepodge of hors d’oeuvres.

E: I am so with you there, Vida. Perhaps the meal was eaten already, and this is one of the final courses if not the final one.

A: No. Pass. None of that sounded good at all.

V: Okay so Claire let me know that she wanted to spit it out. Why does Lafayette keep looking at her? Oh lord, here comes Percy . . . hmmm.

E: Good manners I suppose, especially with him staring her down. She could not very easily spit it out into her napkin.

A: Erica yes, she could have spat that in her napkin politely. ‘Cause gag.

V: Claire, I am not sure you would want him as a distant relative.

A: Ha! Exactly. Not even a close relative.

E: Not even a close relative, Vida.

V: So, that’s what the flag was for?!

A: Yes, thank you Mrs. Figgs.

E: Hospitality indeed, especially with no notice given.

V: The way those stars looked; it did not appear that five-points were any easier. I did like what they each said about the flag’s representation.

A nation without a flag is
like a furnace without a fire.

Exactly.
What is a flag
but a piece of cloth,
and yet it stands for something.

E: Yes…A nation without a flag is like a furnace without a fire. Even today, these words ring true.

A: It’s interesting to hear the meaning of the flag looking at it from our current perspective and feelings (good or bad) toward it.

V: Gen. Lee is a trip. They’ve already barged in without much notice and he wants to stay for another drink. Go home! I don’t think Jamie wanted that, twitching his fingers; Claire either with that look on her face.

A: I was thinking just that. Can you go home? Or somewhere? Just not here.

E: You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here. And Claire gets her promised cheese. All she needs now is a glass of wine.

V: There is no way I’d come back to the house alone. Seriously?!

A: Yeah, I would definitely not go back there at night, alone. At least have a shotgun with you.

E: This is all kinds of bad. All kinds.

V: Did she leave that light upstairs on?

E: I don’t think she left the light on. She was downstairs the whole time with Rob and Amanda.

E: I am loving their story.  Husband…Wife…beautiful. She is a feisty one.

A: Girl drops that Quaker with a quickness. Ha! Okay, Rachel.

V: Indeed, she did. I like their scenes too. They have a lot of chemistry.

E: Yes…Wine with her cheese. Claire looks so happy and content. Happiness looks good on her, as always.

A: She’s in my happy place. Wine, Cheese (a good show) or a book. And if I had a Jamie perhaps that too.

V: She does look content. I knew Lee was pissed at Washington the way he acted at the dinner. Now we know, Washington got the position he wanted.

E: I love how Claire is able to give the history lesson to Jamie regarding the people he is meeting. I am certain he is appreciating her insight.

A: I love it when she gives him the history lessons as well. I still think about the airplane discussion.

V: Don’t get me wrong. I love history too. But I always found it strange that she could remember events so accurately after all that time. I don’t even remember every battle and what happened.

E: General Fraser in the history books. I love it!

A: I’m not mad at it. Here’s to a Fraser in the history books.

V: Let’s not talk about being in history books, now. I don’t want to think of Jamie as dead. I guess Lee staying after the others did serve a purpose.

E: The weight of the responsibility is weighing on him. You got this, Jamie. I have faith in you.

A: Jamie, you were born to do this! You got this. I know it seems like a lot.

V: It is a heavy burden and he’s been through a lot. But yeah, he can handle it.

E: Like a groom. I am sure that stung. I need him to get over the disgust of his lineage soon. It doesn’t change who he is on the inside one bit.

A: He’s getting on my nerves. I should know this but how old is he? Cause if he is too grown, he needs to knock it off. Your lineage is your lineage, and it really makes you lucky. (Also, the groom insult, especially since that was what Jamie was).

V: Andrea, I think he’s about 18 or so. But during that time, he would have been considered an adult. I am sure that was a gut-punch to him. But yeah, he needs to get over it quickly.

E:  If looks could kill that officer would be in the ground.

V: That’s that Fraser temper for you.

Good lord his uniform is filthy and looks like he’s been rolling around on the ground.

V: I know it’s a tent, but how do you just walk in on something like that? Arabella is a mess. That was a sweet exchange between him and Fanny.

E: Check William trying to hide his body while the introductions commence. Clearly Arabella likes what she sees.

A: He damn near blushed. Went from nasty looks to bashfulness.

E: This exchange is quite lovely. The mere mention of Capt. Harkness changes the mood immediately.

A: Don’t judge a book by its cover William (hint, hint – your dad). Loved that they had this exchange until they brought up Harkness.

E: Did you notice the mood change when Arabella mentioned they needed his protection? He is on the job immediately.

She can be impulsive at times, and at that moment, she’s driven by her love for Fanny. I think everything she ever does is with Fanny in mind, and keeping her alive and safe. And so, when she really needs to, the first person she thinks of is William, because he’s less likely to be someone to judge her harshly, or criticize her for the things that she’s done, because she’s aware they’ve exchanged a really vulnerable moment.

~ Silvia Presente

A: Yes, I noticed his mood changed immediately.

V: Yes, duty first. But he doesn’t ask why? He could have been putting himself in danger by helping her.

E: I am loving Mama Bear, Bree.  She is all about protecting her family.

A: There ya go! No solo trips at night without some firepower.

V: I was trying to figure out where she was going. But I see; she is scouting it out.

E: Complete madness. Who are these two!

A: I don’t know who these fools are, but they are going to 2025 times FAFO. She knows how to shoot and shoot true.

V: Here we go with more intruders. Whomever they are, she has no problem taking them out!

E: Oh No! Stay in the van, Jem!

A: No, no, no, no. Stay in the van Jem!

V: OMG, why are they back? And Jem of all people shouldn’t have been the first one to jump out of the van.

E: How I wish her aim were better.

A: Yeah, like her aim is usually better than that, yes? Why didn’t she aim better? Maybe fear and worry just trying to get the kids out of the way.

V: She was moving too fast to get to Jem. I think that shot was to scare them off until she reached the van.

E: Good Job, Mama Bear!

A: Stop playing with Bree! She is in fight mode.

V: Ernie, you need to focus on getting the van out of there. Bree knows what to do.

E: This is all insane. How many people are involved in this attempted heist?! They were probably looking for the box with the letters. Good thing Bree gave them to Fiona and Ernie.

A: I need these men dealt with posthaste, ya heard. Immediately.

V: Yeah, it was a good thing that Bree gave the chest to Fiona. And Rob’s back too?

Callahan!

But what was his plan, here? Jem already wouldn’t tell him; Bree surely isn’t. So, now what . . . come back with men to beat them up, kill them? Oh, and WE know who you are, Callahan.

E: Facts . . . All Facts. They don’t have enough backup. Roger in the past, Jamie and Claire in the past…the police not giving a damn…she is so alone. It’s maddening.

A: Yeah, they won’t be safe. Boy, do I wish she had her folks and Roger. I love Ernie and Fiona, but they really can’t do too much.

V: How did Rob even know where Fiona and Ernie live? SMDH.

E: This poor woman. To be used and left ignorant is a horrible thing.

A: I can’t even imagine the absolute shite these poor women had to deal with.

V: It really is a shame, even Fanny knows her limitations.

E: Whoever said ignorance is bliss lied. The only good thing about ignorance is that a bit of knowledge can cure that problem.

A: You said a word, Erica!

V: Even sadder is that she was not inclined to learn about money. I can’t imagine being locked up in a brothel and clueless about the outside world.

E: Lord have mercy.

A: Jesus! 10-YEARS-OLD! My God!

V: That’s what I said, Andrea. It makes more sense that she doesn’t know anything except what to do with her body and the amount per body part. And there’s Fanny coming up in the same way she did in that brothel.

E: You can see that he genuinely cares for her. Stay where it is safe please, Arabella.

A: No wrong moves Arabella. Just trust his judgement and stay safe.

V: His caring side does show in this scene. He wants to protect her like he did that night at the brothel.

E: Good Job, William. Protect this woman at all costs.

A: William is a good guy deep down.

V: Once again, it shows she didn’t have the presence of mind not to show up in a military camp dressed that way. She should also appreciate that William doesn’t view her as a whore, even if she does.

E: Remember that scene in S2 when Jamie and Murtagh were training the Highlanders to fight? This scene reminds me of that.

A: That was so long ago; I am not sure I remember. I will have to re-watch. My first thought was Black Panther telling them to get Cap a shield only this time, “Get this man a musket.”

V: Oh, how funny, Andrea. Erica, I remember that scene. I like that Jamie was starting off by asking the soldiers their name and getting them fit.

Ole boy brought all the weapons from the kitchen and then some. That was funny.

E: Claire in her happy place.

A: She is like yes, my man is back, he’s leading soldiers. I get to patch folks up….

V: Yes during battles, she knows where her lane is.

E: Her face is like, what are you thinking…coughing up a lung…go home.

A: I cringed with each cough. Sir, you are not going to be of any use at all.

V: She barked out orders like she was the general, telling him to fall out.

E: I am not certain if she is pleased to see him. It’s almost like, What the hell are you thinking coming here?

A: I don’t know what I think of this at all.

V: Maybe he thought he’d be safer under Jamie’s command rather than another officer. I would have done the same thing if I had the choice.

E:  Ah look…the gangs all here! One big happy family.

A: Ah yes, this isn’t awkward at all.

V: These role reversals are something else. I do love the snarky LJG.

E: Of course, she knows what happened to your eye. She and Jamie have no secrets.

A: Yup she knows how it happened and now she needs to check it like she always must do.

V: I don’t even know why he asked her that. He, of all people, should know she knows what happened.

E: It’s a strange time, LJG.

A: Well, there is a lot going on LJG.

V: So, if you don’t blame Jamie for what he did, why ask if he was sorry for it? Yeah, that would be strange to me too. You finally return home. It’s overtaken and then you have to be a prisoner in your home under guard. I would get a whiplash from all of it.

E: Paging Dr. Claire.

A: The poking it is cracking me up ’cause I know it hurts.

V: Hell, I flinched when she did that, but she has to see what’s going on with it.

E: Decisions…decisions…decisions. Personally, I think LJG is safe. Jamie will get over himself.

A: You will be fine LJG and Jamie will be okay in the long run. As my grandfather used to say, ‘He can scratch his ass and get glad.’

“Ye Dinna Get Used to It” is the episode in which Jamie, Claire and Lord John have a rapprochement. This is the first time they’ve all been together since the reveal that Lord John and Claire had sex, and Lord John definitely feels he is owed an apology by Jamie, but Jamie is not big on apologies, even when he may know deep down that there is something to apologize for.

~ Diana Gabaldon

V: LJG, what else could Jamie have done, gone with you? At least you are back home and under good care. And you should be thankful that Jamie is not turning him over to Washington. But I want them to stop talking so openly so the other officers don’t hear them.

E: Talk about a cliff notes version of events.

A: Short and sweet. LOL.

V: I know LJG is tired of explaining how he got there, but he is only looking at it from his perspective. Neither Claire nor Jamie can believe he took an oath against the British. I also think he is still in shock at all the events that took place for him to get there. He has never been in this type of situation before.

E: This will hurt like the dickens as is evident with his moaning.

A: I am just glad I didn’t have to see anything. I was wincing before the moaning started and during.

V: Me too, Andrea. Jamie let us all know what it looked like and LJG let us know how it felt. That was enough for me.

E: Ha-ha. He has got to get out of his head.

A: The strength. LOL.

V: That was funny when she mentioned ‘Lil Willie’ wanted it, even if he didn’t. But she is not thinking either. Why would she be walking around a military camp dressed in her night clothes?

E: He might have been sidelined but he clearly needs a release. Like I said…he needs to get out of his head.

A: He just needs to get it on.

V: I think he wants her to want him and not just perform an act of doing it. But riddle me this. If she knows what soldiers want before battle, where the hell is Fanny? And why did she leave her alone? So many questions.

It’s a really tricky one. I think there’s so much miscommunication between the two of them, but they both clearly are interested in each other. In Jane’s eyes, it’s not just a transaction anymore. There is something there that she is interested in pursuing. But I think she’s so used to having her guard up for so long and not being able to trust anyone that she can’t see herself immediately being vulnerable and open with him in that moment.

~ Silvia Presente

E: For shame.

A: I knew it! I knew it!

V: I don’t know about the cowardly response. But yes, I believe he wants her, just not as a trick for the night.

I can feel ye wi’ me.
I hope ye havena come
wi’ bad news.

A: And I believe he is with him.

V: I couldn’t figure out what he was talking about or to whom. But I know he understands spirits and probably did feel his dad with him.

E: I can certainly understand that…feeling your loved one with you after they’re gone. It’s powerful.

A: This is just beautiful.

A dove.
My uncle says
the dead stand at yer back
when ye go into battle.

V: That was so sweet and unexpected.

Ye carry yer woman with ye.
This is you, my dove.

E: She is all in. Rachel is clearly the right woman for him.

A: If we know one thing, we know Bree will get your car started. And fight like the dickens for her family.

V: That’s right, Bree. Ernie, you need to worry about why your van keeps stalling. How are you and Fiona going to get where you need to go if it continues to stall out? Yeah, Bree will get it started.

E: Just like when Roger’s car stalled in the 60s – S3. She fixed it like it was nothing.

A: The police have shown they are absolutely useless. So, I’d say they are out.

V: Me too; she’s on her own. Let’s move on to Plan B.

E: Plan B it is. Get to getting.

A: And… another trip back through the stones. This will get very interesting.

V: Okay then, Plan P – past. I think I remember how, but at this point, how would she even know how to reach Roger? We’ll see how the show plays this out.

E: I am sure that the kids can steer the way. See how Mandy felt Jem. This will be a serious game of hot and cold.

A: Oh crap! What is going on? Arabella, please don’t do anything dumb. Let William escort you like he said he would.

V: Yeah, something spooked her, but she is being a bit of an ingrate here. She should know William can’t just up and leave at will like that.

E: I smell a secret here. A big one. Let him help you.

You best tell him, Janey.

A: Oh god! What?

V: Finally, he’ll get to know what’s really going on with her and Fanny.

E: Let the secret spill. It will do you some good.

A: She did what needed to be done. The sick son of a biscuit! Made my stomach turn.

V: The life they had to live was so harsh. How can anyone do that to a child? If Fanny were my little sister, I would have slit Harness’s throat too. I don’t care what era it is; I hate the thought of it. I am just glad we didn’t have to see it, like the one with BJR and Fergus and all the other ones.

E: I am so with you there, Vida.  This show had enough of sodomy and sexual assault with Captain Randal, the Brownsville men and bloody Stephen Bonnet.

He is the only person that they are relying on at that point, and I think to have the sole person that’s there to protect you from the other soldiers [taken] is obviously going to be a really scary thing, especially considering that person knows the things that you’ve told them.

~ Silvia Presente

A: William would not only not send you over to a magistrate, but he may well end up hurting the man.

V: He is just as disgusted as I am, so I knew he wouldn’t turn her over to anyone. That kiss from Fanny was so sweet. Is it just me, or does William’s hair look like it’s getting redder?

E: He is a good man. A man of honor…just like LJG and Jamie.

A: Jamie is always looking out for his men. See Jamie, you got this!

V: He really is and wants to make sure they get back home.

E: A true leader, Jamie is.

A: Now what!? I don’t trust this man at all. I am worried about William.

V: You should be. He is a snake in the grass and up to no good!  William should be leery too from what happened in Dismal Town.

E: William isn’t putting it together as yet. He should not be trusted as far as he could be thrown.

V: LJG is exhausted.

I’d be worried where I would be headed too if I were him.

A: Private messages. Oh my! I’m scared to know.

V: The way Percy said it makes it suspect.

E: It’s about to get real.

A: Wait. Okay yes, it’s his stepbrother, but why are we worrying about who he is sleeping with?

V: I don’t know if you caught it, but he asked if he was sleeping with the baron or the sister and he said both, at times. That’s a clue.

E: Big time clue, Vida. Perhaps he’s playing both sides of the field.

A: Oh no!

V: I told you Richardson is a snake and he’s setting William up. I hope, someday, someone chops off his head.

E: Someone please go and help this naive young man.

A: Wait! Why would they be discussing…. Wait! Are they not stepbrothers? You know, my ignorance right now is my bliss.

Who hurt you, John?

V: Yes, they were and other things too (ex-lovers) before their parents married and continued afterwards until things went awry! I’ll give you the backstory, offline, if you want it.

A man who had a right
to touch me.

E: Yes, please share with the ignorant. Most likely in a book I didn’t read.

V: I’ll send it to you in Slack, so as not to spoil it for others.

A: Oh God! Ya’ll have got to save William.

V: They played this differently. I can remember Jamie knowing about Percy. Maybe it will come up later. Oh, you know they will save him. I just want to see William’s reaction when they do.

E: This young man needs saving, for sure.

William is in danger.

A: Yeah, maybe you should have given out that piece of information Claire. Might have been a wee bit helpful.

V: How could she? You know she wasn’t in her right mind. But she is right that Richardson is on ‘their’ side and LJG isn’t. Well, he wasn’t at that time. Plus, she did tell him she wouldn’t help him.

E: More secrets. Too many if you ask me.

Beauchamp is right about tone thing.
Richardson is a spy.

A: There we go! Go get your son!

I have 300 men under my command.
We’re marching into battle.
I canna abandon 300 souls
for the sake of one,
even if that one is my own son.

V: Well, there’s a little reconciliation to start. LJG is finally back to his senses.

E: Yes! Go and get William. It’s time to work together.

Two hundred and ninety-nine.
You used to have 300 souls
and now you have 299 and one prisoner
whom you could parole and set free.

A: Amen, Jamie. You definitely don’t get used to wearing irons. Go get William!

I’m becoming quite
used to wearing irons.

V: No, you don’t. And Jamie was the wrong person to tell that to. Being a prisoner, in irons, is no joke and nothing to get used to.

Ye dinna get used to it,
believe me.

E: That was a poorly timed statement, LJG. Jamie knows all too well what irons feel like.

A: Oh Lord! I need them to get to him in time.

V: Me too. At the pace they are moving, it might happen next week.

E: I hope so.

A: Ack! Right into a trap.

V: I’m tired for William. Interesting decipher tool.

E: So cordial, William is. At some point, he will learn. I pray.

A: NO! William don’t stay. Ugh! I don’t want to have to wait.

V: Nah, I would’ve been outta there. It looked like it was starting to get dark. So, he was going to eat and ride back at night? Nope, nope, nope. And that little sneer from Schnell would have been my clue to get back on my horse and get out of there.

You’ve come a long way.
Please stay for supper.

E: He is not reading the room at all. Next episode will be interesting.

We give this episode 4-shots.

They introduced a lot of storylines. The speed of the episode kept a good pace moving everything forward.

Favorite scene(s)
There were several scenes that we liked with everyone having to reconcile how this battle will affect them. Ian when he was speaking to his dad. One of us recently lost our dad, so she felt this interaction. Also, Ian’s preparation for battle and what it looks like, as well as his scene with Rachel about the dove was touching and sweet. So was Fanny’s sweet gesture when thanking William for understanding and helping them.

Jamie and Claire discussing the battle and how Jamie feels the weight of the world on his shoulders having to command so many men. Last, there was Bree in Mama Bear mode. Seeing all that she was going through alone and realizing she and the kids needed to get back to Roger and away from Rob’s madness.

Directing
We always love the directors of the show. We especially liked the scene where it was shot from the perspective through the spyglass, a perspective needed at the time, so the audience could see what Ian was looking at in the camp. We also liked the different scenes in the camps that gave the audience an idea of camp life.

Standout Acting / Performance(s)
We didn’t really have an outstanding performance, per se, in this episode. Although this is the case, we did like Charles Vandervaart’s portrayal of William’s shyness when Arabella and Fannie entered his tent and attempting to cover up his body and then his chivalry towards Fanny when she was introduced to him.

Favorite Costume(s)
Again we loved seeing Jamie in his uniform. That one always wins out all others. It was also nice to see the Hessian’s uniform. The costume department is working overtime this season! And though it is not a costume, we also liked LJG’s eye injury progression. The makeup artists did a great job.

Cinematography
Hats off to the cinematography crew. How they are able to seamlessly go from night to day, inside/outside composition is the best we’ve seen in any show. Shots of the camps, the buildings, the cities all looked amazing.  And once again, seeing the camps through the spyglass was a favorite.

LOOKING FORWARD

What we are looking forward to in Epi15 – Written in My Own Heart’s Blood

Erica: I am looking forward to several things. The rescue of William by JLG and Ian. Bree and the kids making their way to Roger, which I hope will be one of the final scenes of Epi15, so that Epi16 ends with Hello the House. The battle itself and seeing Jamie command his men like only he can. Follow Erica on IG – @iamericalazarus.

Andrea: I’m anxious as I don’t know what about William and how the rescue will go. And then, of course, Bree’s ultimate decision of what she will do to save her family.

Vida: It seems like a lot will happen in the next episode. We know when Jamie and Claire are separated something always happens, and not in a good way. The battle begins. So I am also looking forward to seeing Jamie lead his troops. LJG and Ian rescuing William and how it all goes down. Bree and kids going back to the past.
