Blacklanderz® Speak – Jessica L.! From NYCC 2019

Months before Outlander was announced attending NYCC, my friend talked me into buying badges. We hoped that our favorite show would be there and our dreams came true. I have previously visited NY a few times, so the idea of the big city was not daunting; but, the idea of attending a Comic Con was. I had never been to a Comic Con before, like any comic con, so I was nervous and excited.

The weekend started with my friends and I exploring the city. We went to the Met, Central Station, and other tourists’ places in NY. The day after, was the first time we went to the con! Sadly, Outlander did not have a booth this year, but we made the most of it. Walking the floor was an incredible experience.

There was a real camaraderie that made you feel good, like anyone is welcome and everyone just wants to have a good time. After walking the floor for some hours, laughing and talking, it was finally time to meet some other Outlander fans, who I frequently interact with on SM. First, I got the pleasure of meeting some Blacklanderz members and had a lovely dinner with them. This was the first time I had ever met another Black person who is a big fan of the show! From discussing the show to the books to careers, it was a pleasant evening filled with nice conversation and delicious Italian food.

After dinner with Blacklanderz group, I went out for drinks with some twitter mutuals that I have never met. I am so glad that the Highlands Bar was loud because we were extremely loud and rowdy. I will never forget how much I laughed and smiled that night after having a wonderful experience with all these people I met for the first time.

After a wonderful night out, the panel day came next. I could write paragraphs that are pages long talking about the experience I had at that panel day. There was so much that happened, I want to go back and experience it all over again. The cast was incredible, the panel was perfect, and I didn’t want any of it to end.

Overall, NYCC weekend was one of the greatest experiences of my life!! I would love to do it all over again and I cannot wait to attend another Outlander event and meet more fans!!
